Journalists and editors face a number of ethical dilemmas daily regarding reporting on specific, particularly sensitive topics. Some of them are family violence, mental health, children, people with disabilities…Sometimes events, such as mass killings, mass protests or terrorist attacks mandate the specific responsibility of the reporter, but also the need to protect them, too.
The Code of Journalists of Serbia contains professional principles and rules and provides instructions for handling in different situations but cannot capture all the specifics of certain events and topics reported. That’s why we’ve collected and offered fellow guidelines that should make these kinds of problems easier for them.
Guidelines should be understood as a useful tool for journalists and editors, as instruction crafted in accordance with the process of working in newsrooms and time constraints.
The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia.
