Stop the brutal campaign against Tamara Skrozza
The Press Council strongly protests the brutal smear campaign and targeting of our long-time member of the Complaints Commission, Tamara Skrozza. The campaign of dangerous attacks was created by a series of lies that were published on Monday and today, first in Informer, which directly accused Tamara of threatening the president of the country with death, and then in other media.
Private television stations and tabolid newspapers, according to the already known scenario of an orchestrated attack, misused a part of her statement from the television show “If I Were Someone”, broadcast at the beginning of June, in which she spoke about the events of 5 October 2000. Tamara did not mention any name at the time, nor did she call for any violence.
Her words were deliberately taken out of context to exploit the fear of the public, after the whole world witnessed the assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump, to publicly mark her, turn her into a target and expose her to a new wave of attacks.
The experience so far clearly indicates that the Press Council has reason to believe that Tamara Skrozza’s life could be endangered by such lies, because this is not the first time she has been targeted by tabloids.
Tamara Skrozza has been a member of the Complaints Commission since the establishment of the Press Council and her contribution to the work and development of this body is immeasurable. Both in the Complaints Commission and in wider journalistic circles, Tamara Skrozza is known as a journalist of exceptional ethics and fairness in her work and life.
