Training for Young Fact-Checkers

Within the project “Media Ethics Laboratory: Young Fact-Checkers from Niš”, implemented by the Press Council in cooperation with the Human Rights Committee Niš, two two-day workshops were held in Niš during October.
Young participants had the opportunity, through lectures, practical exercises, and mentoring, to learn how to recognize and debunk fake news. With the support of experienced journalists and fact-checking experts, they learned how to use professional fact-checking tools, how to distinguish reliable from non-credible sources, and how to resolve ethical dilemmas brought by contemporary journalism. Through open discussions and collaborative work, they developed critical thinking and a responsible approach to media. All participants received certificates at the end of the training.
At the two-day training held on October 17 and 18, the trainers were Gordana Novaković, Secretary General of the Press Council; Dragan Đorđević, President of the Human Rights Committee Niš; Lazar Čovs, investigative journalist; and Milena Popović, Editor-in-Chief of Istinomer. The training was moderated by Marija Ilić, Associate at the Human Rights Committee Niš.
