In the first six months of last year, ten daily newspapers published a total of 5,715 articles in which at least one point of the Code of Journalists of Serbia was violated, according to the results of the latest monitoring by the Press Council. After the decline in the number of offenses in 2020, a significant increase was recorded again last year, and this time the provisions related to the chapter Responsibility of Journalists were most often violated, primarily violations of the right to presumption of innocence and respect for culture and ethics of public words, as well as the Privacy Respect chapter.
Compared to the previous monitoring, there was a significant increase in the number of violations in the chapter on the Truthfulness of Reporting, mainly when it comes to reporting on political topics, due to the publication of false information, conjectures and assumptions, which are presented as facts. sources of information.
From the beginning of July to the end of December 2021, the Press Council followed, as in the previous six years, the daily newspapers: Alo, Blic, Danas, Vecernje Novosti, Informer, Kurir, Politika and Srpski Telegraf, and for the first time the newspapers Objektiv and Nova.
