Press Council entered the Draft Law on Public Information and Media
(Source: UNS) The Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Public Information and Media will contain provisions that stipulate that the media must accept the competence of the Press Council if they want to apply for co-financing of media projects, it was decided yesterday at a meeting of the Working Group for Drafting the Law. The draft also includes a provision that prescribes compliance with the Code of Journalists of Serbia as one of the criteria for allocating money for media projects.
According to the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS), the decision on these provisions on the Press Council to be in the Draft was made by outvoting. Of the 11 members present, eight voted in favor, two voted against, while one abstained.
If the provisions that are in the Draft Law are finally accepted, when deciding who will be allocated funds in the competitions for project co-financing, it will also be appreciated whether the media that requested public funds has been imposed by the Council for violating the Code.
After the public debate on the Draft Law, the Government shall establish the draft law and submit it for adoption to the National Assembly.
