Statement- Media must respect the dignity of the victim
By publishing photos of the young man’s body, which had been in the water for several months, and unconfirmed allegations from the investigation, several daily newspapers and portals violated the Code of Journalists of Serbia and disturbed the public.
The Press Council reminds colleagues that, according to the Code, the misuse of photos and data obtained from investigative bodies is not allowed.
First and foremost, we appeal to them to respect the right to privacy and the right to dignity of the victim.
The Press Council calls on the media to show empathy towards the family of the victimized young man, respect their readers and not allow the already collapsed professional standards to collapse further.
